Description
This is a 9.5" x 6.5" black and white photograph of North Hall (women's residence hall). Four women stand on the front steps, one of which is the Dean of Women, Miss Rees. North Hall was built in 1890-91 as one of the three original buildings on the Union College Campus. It was torn down after the construction of Rees Hall in 1958. Pearl Rees served three separate terms as Dean of Women at Union College, 1920-1937, 1941-1948, and 1951-1952. Everett Dick included this photograph in his book Union: College of the Golden Cords (1967) with a caption dating it to about 1935. However, this photograph was also published in the 1947 Golden Cords which is more likely closer to the date it was taken given the landscaping and the women's hair and clothing styles.
